How am I doing? Mood is better. No magic, no altars, no ju-ju, just having a decent morning so far. I don’t know why it happens that way, but it does. If I were a shrink, I might point out to myself that my mood has mysteriously improved since I received a pleasantly chatty phone call from HWSNBN yesterday. But since that fact alone would make me a pitiful, lameass train-wreck of codependency, I refuse to even discuss it. I’m having a good day, and however I got there, I’ll take it.
But it’s not a good day for poor Brad Renfro.
The 25-year old actor was found dead in his LA Home yesterday. Cause of death is presently unknown, but alcohol and/or drugs are suspected. Suicide? I don’t think so. More like accidental overdose. He’d been trying to live in Sobrietyland, but as anyone can tell you, it’s a hard place to be in. If he went back to using heroin after trying to stay clean—or worse yet, was on medication and tried using again—people overdose that way all the time. The body just can’t take it once it goes clean even though the mind still wants it.
You might remember Renfro from “Apt Pupil” or “Sleepers” or “The Client”. He was a good, but troubled actor—like River Phoenix before him—another one dead from too much too soon.
In brighter celebrity news, Miss Rumer “Spudzilla” Willis is surviving her Golden Globe fiasco just fine. Gosh, at least one of us has the courage to show a smiling face despite utter tragedy. What’s that? She’s not smiling? Oh. Well, just the same. She managed to put on her best brokedown alley cat fur, her Adebisi Cap, and brave the masses of photographers waiting to take her photo and get her statement about the Globes. “You can wear a pretty dress any time,” quoth the Spud, “It’s more about supporting people, your peers, and the other people that are struggling right now.”
That’s right girl! You show ‘em! Power to the little people!!
Sniff sniff…. [wiping tears] …. Oh! She’s a model of strength for all of us! Overcome, little Spud, overcome!
